July 4th Weekend

This year has been a low key summer and July 4th was no exception. In the years past we have gone to the beach or had a party but due to a foot injury of Ricks we decided to stay close to home. Here are a few photos from our weekend.

Nara started her first job last week and she had to work.

Rick, Caroline and I had a great lunch and then on Satuday we went to dinner and a movie.

We love our newest movie theater.

Summer Vacation Deerfield Beach

Rick had a work conference in Deerfield  Beach for a few days. The girls and I were out of school so we decided to turn it in to a mini vacation. We are Florida girls so we live close to a beach but it is always nice trying out a different beach. We loved the beach during the day and then we explored the town in the evening

Ms Junior Fort Myers

Without much planning Nara decided to partipate in the Ms. Fort Myers pageant. She enjoyed the pageant and did very well on the interview section. Nara won  first runner up. We were proud.

Naples Player Spring 2013 Showcase

Caroline began participating in the local theater group last August. They do not usually allow kids to participate until they are four but they broke the rules for her. Caroline was a bunny in the Nutcracker Goes Pop in December. You can read about that fun here: http://onefamiliesjourneytochina.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-nutcracker-goes-pop.html

Caroline started her second class in January and had the opportunity to participate in the end of class showcase last night. It was an Adams Family/ Spooky/Ghost Buster Theme play. She had speaking parts and signing and dancing. Caroline has never been shy and I hope she never is. She thrives on the stage. She dances like no one is watching and she embraces the fun and excitement of the night. Rick and I were so proud of her.

Sunday Snapshot:Greek Festival

Seven years ago Rick and I were looking for something to do on a Sunday afternoon and ended up at our local Greek Festival. The Greek Festival is an annual even hosted by the local Greek Orthodox Church.

Seven years ago Rick and I had already begun discussing adopting but we had not really made any final decisions. We had recently gone through all of the fertility testing and many of the treatments. To say the least our emotions were raw. On that Sunday Rick was really just looking for a distraction. Ironically that little distraction has become a part of our story.

As we enjoyed our first Greek Festival we noticed a family with a beautiful Asian toddler and for first the time we really began to see that adoption might be the best way to find our daughter. That faithful day between a bottle of Greek wine Greek dinner , Greek Music and dancing and some Greek Honey puffs we decided to adopt. The nest day Rick and I submitted our adoption application to Living Hope Adoption Agency and began the long wait.

Year after year we returned to the Greek Festival. Every year we would see another family with a beautiful Asian daughter and we would smile and know that was God’s way of reminding us that our time would come too. In 2011 almost a year after returning from China we brought Caroline to her first Greek Festival and every year since we have continued to bring her back.

Yesterday we continued as a family to celebrate at the Greek Festival. One day Caroline will understand the importance of a simple local festival that began as a distraction but became a family tradition but for now she enjoys the bounce house and the honey puffs.

Universal: Halloween Horror

We got back from Universal’s Halloween Horror earlier today. It was a quick 24 hour trip.

In August we promised Nara that if she received all A’s and B’s that we would take her to Halloween Horror. Rick and I have been several times over the years and have really enjoyed a quick getaway in October. Nara has always wanted to go. She is almost 14 so we thought she would be old enough to attend. It became clear on Thursday that she was going to get all A’s and B’s (including Algebra).

Rick and I are really not into haunted houses so we always just walk around and enjoy getting a little scared and enjoy people watching. I am glad to be home and wish I had another weekend to recover before heading back to work tomorrow. I will post photos later.

Happy Birthday Rick

Happy Birthday Rick

Happy Birthday to my sweet husband! He always has a way of making his birthday special for me. We went out to dinner and I am the one that got cake. Tomorrow we will have a family birthday dinner. I think Caroline is going to love it.
