Catch up

I have really neglected the blog. I has been a busy year. We are coming to the end of the school year so I will try to play catch up. Caroline participated in several activities this year. This was her 3rd year in the Nutcracker with our local theater. This year she was a mouse. Caroline won Miss Naples last May so in November she competed for Tiny Miss Florida American Beauty. She won and will compete for Tiny Miss American Beauty in June. She also participated in soccer and tennis this spring. Caroline is a great student and has done well in kindergarten. She is a strong reader and math student.

Nara is finishing her 10th grade year. Nara starts dual enrollment next year at the local college. Nara works as a host and busser at a local restaurant and will get her drivers licenses in August.

Our family went to North Caroline and Tennessee over Christmas

July 4th Weekend

This year has been a low key summer and July 4th was no exception. In the years past we have gone to the beach or had a party but due to a foot injury of Ricks we decided to stay close to home. Here are a few photos from our weekend.

Nara started her first job last week and she had to work.

Rick, Caroline and I had a great lunch and then on Satuday we went to dinner and a movie.

We love our newest movie theater.

Fall 2009

Nara at her game

We have had a great and busy fall. Nara started cheerleading for a local little league team. She has really enjoyed it. Rick started his classes back and has been busy working and taking classes. Devon has continued to play for the high school marching band. I recently began a new position. No news on Caroline. The China adoption process continues to be slow.

Our Weekend

Part of our weekend was a lot of fun. Rick Devon, Nara and I all spent Friday night as my parent’s house. We went out to dinner and then came home for a late night swim. However, this was a weekend of lots of emotions. Rick and I have a house that we rent out. Several months ago the tenant moved out (without paying). The man left a huge mess for us to clean up. The cleanup has been going on for several months and we are both emotionally exhausted Several weeks ago we arranged to have the new carpet put in. We thought we were getting this great deal. When we checked on the carpet we realized that the carpet installation was not complete. We could not get in touch with the handy man who had given us “the great deal” He was nowhere to be found. Our super friend Joey came by on Saturday to finish the carpet for us. Joey was great but Joey let us know that the guy had cut the carpet to short and we did not have much hope. By Sunday we had come to the realization that our new carpet was going to have to be pulled up and we were going to have to start over. As one can imagine I was devastated.
I was sad most of Sunday and really pretty disgusted. I could not believe that someone would really mess us up in such a dishonest way. However on Monday I kept reminding myself that life was going to have ups and downs and I just had to get over this and move on. I reminded myself of all the great things in my life. So I have made a point this week to remember all the things I am thankful for.

Weekend Plans

Nara is finally better. She went back to school today. It is about time. She is tired of being sick. We have a ton of home improvements going on this weekend. We have someone working on updating our kitchen. It was a very ugly old kitchen. He started last week. I hope he makes a lot of progress over the weekend. We are also planning on going to an arena football game this weekend. I will take pictures if we go.

The Best Plans......

Rick, Nara and I started the day of with packed plans. Nara and I were going to meet my sister and niece early this morning to walk in the Susan G Komen walk http://ww5.komen.org/. As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, I think it is important to support such a great cause. In the car, before the walk Nara started complaining of a stomach ache. I thought she was just being a drama queen. I told her to suck it up she was just tired. As we pulled into to park she threw up. I still thought she was being a drama queen. Nara kept telling me that she was fine and she wanted to walk. I think she was trying to please me. Finally right before the race started my sister convinced me that she was really sick. Needless to say, I feel like a horrible step-mom. We are home now and she is in bed sleeping. I hope it is just a 24 hour virus. As she crawled into bed she told me that she was sorry and that she would be ready for next year’s walk.
